Here’s our skin healing, Beef Tallow Diaper Cream With Infused Herbs!
I went down a rabbit hole on diaper rash cream ingredients and honestly… my stomach dropped.
We’re told, “Just grab Desitin, Boudreaux’s, whatever is on the shelf.”
But flip those tubes over and look at what’s going on broken, inflamed baby skin, sometimes 10+ times a day:
• Super processed petroleum-based barriers (like petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin) that make a thick film over the skin. They’re designed to seal everything in moisture, heat, and whatever else is already irritating the rash.
• Ingredients like lanolin and certain resins that dermatologists literally list as common contact allergens in kids. For some babies, the more you use it, the more red and angry their skin gets.
• Extra-thick pastes that are so sticky, pediatric instructions actually say to apply it “like frosting on a cake” and not scrub it off between changes. Just keep layering more on top.
Now picture this in real life:
• Hot, damp skin from being in a diaper 24/7
• Wiped all day long
• Then coated in a cement-like paste that doesn’t really come off, just builds layer after layer
For some kids, it’s fine.
But for sensitive, eczema-prone babies… that combo can turn into a never-ending cycle of rash that just. won’t. quit.
And we’re told, “That’s just diaper rash.”
So I made our Tallow Bum Balm with three things:
*Grass-fed beef tallow
Old-school, grandma-level skin wisdom.
Tallow is rich in the same kinds of fats our own skin barrier uses:
• It melts at body temperature and blends with the skin, instead of sitting like plastic wrap on top.
• Cushions raw, over-wiped skin and helps it feel protected instead of exposed.
*A herbal infused oil
I use a gentle “boo-boo” flower called calendula and let it infuse into a mild plant oil.
That herbal infused oil:
• Helps calm red, fiery, overworked skin
• Supports the skin’s natural healing process
• Gives the balm slip so it glides on easily instead of dragging across sore spots
So it’s not just fat and wax – there’s real, soothing plant support in every swipe.
🐝 A touch of beeswax
Just enough to:
• Help the balm stay put through a wet diaper
• Add a soft, breathable shield
• Without that chalky, glue-like layer you have to scrub off
No water, no weird thickeners, no “mystery glue” ingredients.
Just three simple things you can picture in real life.

The part that really shook me
Our babies are in diapers almost 24/7 for years.
Their skin is thinner, more sensitive, and more absorbent than ours.
So whatever we choose isn’t just “a little cream.”
It’s something their skin is basically marinating in day and night.
